Mazda Wins Coveted Drive ‘Car Of The Year’, takes out Three Additional Awards

Mazda6 is this year’s Drive ‘Car of the Year’, making Mazda, which also won three category awards, the most rewarded car brand in the Fairfax media’s annual automotive awards.

Not only is this the first time that Mazda has taken out Drive’s ‘Car of the Year’ but Mazda’s stylish mid-size offering backed it up with the Mazda6 Sport also winning ‘Best Family’ car.

Supporting Mazda6 was Mazda’s popular CX-5, with the CX-5 Maxx Sport diesel winning ‘Best SUV Under $40,000’ for the second consecutive year, while the BT-50 XTR took back-to- back wins, taking out ‘Best Ute’.

Launched last December, Mazda6 incorporates the stylish ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design language, it offers the full suite of SKYACTIV Technologies and features i-ELOOP – Mazda’s unique brake energy regeneration system.

Mazda6 was a standout, winning Drive’s top award against some stunning competition.

“Against a raft of brilliant new machines – some of which are game changers in their specific categories – the Mazda6 Sport mid-sized sedan brings a blend of value, efficiency, driving dynamics and style that few cars, even some costing twice as much, can match,” said Drive.com.au’s associate editor, Andrew Maclean.

“In the end, the Mazda6 beat them all to the overall crown, proving that, even though the car of tomorrow will be wildly different to today, when car makers focus on refinement rather than revolution everybody wins.”

Mazda is delighted to have won Drive’s ‘Car of the Year’ and to have topped three further categories.

“Drive’s ‘Car of the Year’ is one of the industry’s most credible awards, so we are rapt to see Mazda6 take it out,” said Mazda Australia managing director Martin Benders.

“The testing by Drive’s journalists is thorough, so to have Mazda6 rise to the top above some very good competition is very satisfying.

“I’m also very proud to see Mazda recognised across several categories; best medium car, best SUV under $40,000, best Ute - three very different cars across three very different segments.

“At Mazda, we are passionate about our cars; we focus on style, safety, technology and satisfaction without sacrificing driving enjoyment; awards such as these are just recognition of our vision.”

Mazda6 also recently received the top award – the Judges’ Choice – at the annual Australia’s Best Cars, it won the prestigious RJC ‘Car of the Year’ in Japan, it has been recognised as ‘Car of the Year’ in several top North American automotive publications including Popular Mechanics and won the ‘larger family car’ category at the Midland Group of Motoring Writers Green Apple Awards in the UK.
