Mazda Care Guide

Keep your Mazda in tip top condition between visits to our Mazda Service centre with our simple checklist. Looking after your Mazda doesn’t have to be time intensive and just about anyone can complete the tasks on our checklist. Just remember to keep an eye on important functions such as tyre pressure, lights and engine coolant level.

Areas of your Mazda that require regular checks:

  • Tyre pressures
  • Engine oil level
  • Engine coolant level
  • Brake fluid level
  • Windscreen washer fluid
  • Wiper blades
  • Lights

How to Check your Mazda’s Engine Oil

  1. Ensure that your Mazda is on level ground
  2. The engine should be warm, however, if you've just been driving, wait a few minutes
  3. Locate and remove the dipstick and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth
  4. Reinsert the dipstick fully and remove after three seconds to check the oil level

If it's at the low end of the indicator, top-up your oil using the grade specified in your Mazda’s owner manual (be careful not to overfill!). To ensure the longevity of your engine, Mazda recommends using Genuine Mazda Engine Oils.

It is common for the oil level to increase above the “F” (full) mark in these vehicles. If the oil level approaches or exceeds the “X”, which is the highest mark on the dipstick, the oil will need to be replaced.

Mazda recommends using an authorised Mazda Service Centre to change your oil, as the M-MDS (Mazda Modular Diagnostic System) equipment must be used to reset the engine control system whenever the oil is replaced.

How to Check your Mazda’s Engine Coolant

  1. Check that the coolant level in the plastic reservoir is between the high and low marks
  2. Ensure the engine must be cool before you remove the radiator cap
  3. Check the radiator, if it's low, top-up with the coolant recommended in your owner's manual

If your Mazda is losing coolant, there may be a leak and you should see our Mazda Service centre immediately. Driving your Mazda without enough engine coolant can cause major damage to your vehicle.

How to Check your Mazda’s Brake Fluid

Fill the washer bottle with clean water and add the recommended amount of windscreen washer additive. Don't use household detergents as they can damage paintwork and wiper blades.

Check the condition of your wiper blades. If they're starting to deteriorate, replace them with Genuine Mazda blades which your Mazda Service can fit for you.

How to Check your Mazda’s Lights

Test headlights on low and high beam then check your indicators, plus your reversing, parking, brake and number plate lights.

The best way to check the rear stop, reverse and indicator lights is with the help of someone else or by looking back into a reflective surface, like a window.
